History
In the year 2010, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and founder of Stand By Me, Mr. Jenkins Jebleh Jah decided to visit his home country, Liberia, after he has been out for about twenty (20) years. The track of his journey started in 1987 when he left Doodwicken, a town in Sinoe County to pursue higher education in Monrovia, the capital city of Liberia. He fled the war in Liberia with his siblings to Guinea. Having lived in Guinea for some time, he left and settled in La Cote d'Ivoire. Thereafter, he moved to Nigeria and finally landed in the United States of America. While on all these journeys, he kept constant communication with his mother and ensured she was well. When Liberia returned to normal he decided to go back to Liberia with the objective to see his mother and other family members and friends. Hence, in the year 2010, he traveled to Liberia. He was struck with pain and sadness observing the deplorable conditions that existed in the country.
As a compassionate person, he could not comprehend the terrible living conditions that prevailed in the country. Children were in the street with barely any cloth or shoes. Most older people, the young, men, and women were found with ragged and torn clothes. Parents were unable to send their kids to school. People were found walking long miles bear footed to fetch water from a borehole, and many other sad conditions. He could not just observe the suffering of his people and wish that the situation gets better. He took action. He decided to help. In his own little way, he extended a helping hand to these people while he was still present in Liberia. He took this concern with him when he returned to the United States. He knew he could not provide the needed help all alone, so while in the United States, he solicited donations from workmates, friends, and other benevolent people and society in order to help his people back home. Many of these kind people shared his view and donated many different items; clothing, books, school bags, foodstuff, and many other items. He gets these donated items shipped to Liberia and distributed to the people. He brought smiles to the faces of these people and this motivated him to continue this course. Having done this for quite some time, he decided with advice from friends to register these activities into a not-for-profit organization. Hence, Stand By Me was birthed.
Where we are today
Stand By Me had grown from strength to strength from its inception. Having registered the organization in Liberia, it continues with its objective and has been able to provide some kind of relief to the people of Liberia. Many kind-hearted people share the view of the founder and had joined hands to further this noble course. Stand By Me is now registered in the United States with the outlook of an international organization to reach out to other countries with such relief. Stand By Me is adopting a structured approach to be more impactful in the life of many people. Stand By Me stands for hope, and motivates people to be hopeful in this difficult world.
